The Survivalists

Tools, 2020

Dearest to-be-or-not-to-be future guests of The Survivalists, To The Survivors of those we have lost (individually and collectively), To The Survivors of those living through this very moment, To The Survivors preparing for what is unknown (and what is to come),

A year ago, I began to explore ideas of survival for the 5x10 bar. This research led me to investigate forms of tools, and how these tools have evolved (or how their use has evolved) over time.

As you adapt and recreate your behaviors every day, what tools do you create?

What is necessary? What is enough?

When we remember tools as everyday preparations, may they remind us that life and death are not so far apart.

Here is to surviving, thriving, and listening- and giving these a place in our daily experiences. Here is to mutual care and instruction, to inspiring ritual and action.

If you’re inclined to share your tools with me, I will include these offerings in The Survivalists at a later date or in a virtual state. Until we meet (or never meet), my hope is for all of us to be present with all that is in spirit, and to share tools of our own making.

If you would like to participate send objects, preparations, meditations, notes, songs, images, recordings, or other experiences that serve as tools.

Love to you and yours in these uncertain times,
Leigh
